Correction: Pet Goat-Tennessee story

EAST RIDGE, Tenn. (AP) ? In a story Aug. 29 about a pet goat violating East Ridge livestock ordinances, The Associated Press reported erroneously the owner surname. The owners are the Viar family, not Vlar.

A corrected version of the story is below:

Oreo the goat living outlaw's life in Tennessee

Officials say Tenn. city may grant exception for family ? or else Oreo the pet goat must go

EAST RIDGE, Tenn. (AP) ? Not wanting to be the people who got Jeff Viar's goat, city council members in a Tennessee city will consider an exemption for the animal.

The Chattanooga Times Free Press (http://bit.ly/QSm47l) reports the issue is whether a black and white pigmy goat named Oreo can remain in East Ridge as Viar's pet.

City Manager Tim Gobble says there's no question Oreo is cute. But he also says the city must either enforce its "no livestock" ordinance or find an alternative.

Jeff and Samantha Viar say they didn't know keeping Oreo was against the law when they got him for their children a year ago.

Mayor Brent Lambert is sympathetic. He has kids, too ? the human kind ? and says the city is willing to look at a narrow exception for Oreo.
